When most people hear my name, they think of theatre! Just like many of my peers, I have a hobby I am passionate about, and that passion is theatre! I’m going to take you through some of my fave roles, the struggles I face, why I love theatre, & my plan for how theatre fits in to my future endeavors!

Every passion has some sort of struggle...

With any given hobby, there are going to be challenges. Theatre is a VERY emotionally taxing activity. When you aren’t cast in the role you wanted, it can be very difficult. What did I do wrong? Am I not a good enough singer? Am I not a good enough actress? I should quit. I’ll never get a role. I’ll never be good enough. That’s just a glimpse into the internal dialogues that I and I’m sure my fellow theatre friends have experienced a lot. Rejection/dealing with rejection is a hugeee part of theatre. Nobody likes rejection!! It’s learning how to have confidence in your abilities, knowing some parts aren’t made for you (even if you want them really badly), and realizing theatre is subjective.

Another difficult part of theatre is balancing it with everything! School shows are super hard when you have late rehearsal and three hours of homework to do!! However, the longer I’ve been doing theatre, the easier it has all gotten to balance. (But freshman year I stayed up until like 2am doing homework after rehearsal🤭)

My fave roles!

I have gotten the chance to play so many roles that have meant so much to me! I’ve grown as not only an actress, but a person as well. I owe so much to my wonderful directors that have showed me the amazing world that is theatre.

Urusula in The Little Mermaid Jr.

This was my first lead! Also my “breakthrough“ as an actress. This part was so fun & challenged the evil actress in me. ;)

Mrs. Gunnysack in Romeo to Go To this day, this part was the most lines I have ever had to memorize. This was also the part that made me realize that comedy was my favorite type of role!

Eulalie Mckecknie Shinn in The Music Man

This part I wanted SO badly, and I was so grateful to have the opportunity to play such a spunky character! This show was so much fun, I got to explore another comedy role, and even got a Blue Star Nomination for it!

Jovie in Elf the Musical

This role has hands down been my favorite role I have ever played. Not only was Jovie super similar to me, but her songs were SO fun to sing, I got to tap dance, and I adored all of my counterparts! I am very proud of myself for my portrayal of this role, and it holds a special place in my heart.

Sophia Zubritsky in Fools

This role was a huge challenge, mostly because Sophia was wayyy different than the other roles I had played. She is sweet, timid, and ditsy, opposed to the bold and obnoxious roles I typically played. I am super thankful that I got to explore this sweet side of my acting with this role!

Why theatre means so much to me

I found great friends through theatre! You and your cast & crew become a family. The bonds and memories I have created in my theatre days I will never forget. Theatre turned me from a painfully quiet kid to (now) the most rambunctious and annoying teenager ever lol. I am grateful for the confidence this art has brought me, and the skills I have honed that I will be able to carry with me and teach to my children! I will always find a home on the stage. :)

My future plans

As some of you may know, I hope to pursue speech pathology in college! I am planning on possibly being in a college choir, and maybe doing some shows here and there, but I will not be pursuing any degree in musical theatre. However, when I am older and more established in my job, I hope to be able to participate in theatre on the side! I also will pass my love of music on to my kids, in hopes that it’ll do for them what it has done for me. I have honed skills that’ll last a lifetime- teamwork, balance, confidence, perseverance, & so many more. Thank you to anyone who was a part of this amazing journey❤️

hope you loved this post about the thing I love most! have a blessed week!
